Are you planning for a trip to London with your friends? If so, you’ve come to the right place!

London offers much to enjoy, from famous museums to lively markets and diverse neighbourhoods. It is the ideal place for a memorable trip with friends; the best part is you won’t have to spend much money!

According to Travel Daily News, London is expected to host around 39.5 million tourists from other countries in 2024, 5% higher than the number in 2023. These tourists are anticipated to spend a total of £34.1 billion.

If you’re ready to enjoy London without spending too much while still having a great time, here are my suggestions for a fabulous girls’ trip.

Practical Tips for Perfect Budget-Friendly Trip

Here are the seven tips you can use as a girl to plan a perfect trip to London with your friends without breaking the bank.

  • Stay Central and Save on Travel

As we all know, London is a vast city in Great Britain, where staying in the central area can help you save money. I suggest reserving a lodging in neighbourhoods such as Bloomsbury, Soho, or Covent Garden since they are:

  • Picturesque
  • Easy to navigate
  • Filled with things to do

On our most recent journey, we stayed at the Mentone Hotel in Bloomsbury, and it was ideal for us! It is cheap, comfortable, and conveniently located within walking distance of The British Museum, where admission is free.

Statista reports a rise in the number of visits to the British Museum in London, England, in March 2024 compared to the previous month.

Being in the centre allows easy access to popular attractions by walking, reducing transportation costs. Additionally, the proximity of cafes and parks makes it perfect for casual relaxation with your friends.

  • Take Advantage of Free Attractions

London has many free attractions to enjoy with your friends without overspending. Some must-visit places are:

  • The British Museum
  • The National Gallery
  • Park Hyde

Remember to download a good map application on your smartphone and plan your day by doing activities close to each other. This way, you won’t have to travel across the city.

  • Use Public Transport or Walk

Walking around London is not just fun but also allows you to cut down on transportation costs. Numerous famous sights are nearby, especially if you choose accommodations in the city centre. Opt for public transportation for longer journeys as it is both cost-effective and efficient.

Get an Oyster Card or opt for contactless payments to ensure you get the most budget-friendly fares when using the Tube and buses. For a different perspective of the city, consider taking the Thames Clipper, a cheaper alternative to traditional tourist boat rides, providing beautiful scenic views.

  • Enjoy Street Foods and Visit Local Markets

London has a wide variety of delicious food to offer. If you want a great food experience without spending too much, skip the costly restaurants and head to the markets instead.

Camden Market is a must-visit destination due to its lively ambience and adverse food vendors selling international cuisines at budget-friendly rates. If you want Asian fusion or traditional British dishes, there’s a delicious option for everyone.

Another treasure is the Portobello Road Market, located in Notting Hill. Well-known for its collection of antiques and vintage treasures, this market offers various food vendors, with options ranging from casual street bites to luxurious gourmet treats. If you are visiting over the weekend, make sure to explore the lovely pastel streets of Notting Hill with your girl pals for an Instagram-worthy photo opportunity!

  • Plan a Mix of Paid and Free Activities

Even though many activities are free, there are also some paid opportunities worth investing in. Achieving balance is important. For instance, the London Eye provides stunning views, although ticket prices may be high.

For savings, make your booking ahead of time on the internet or search for bundled packages with other sights, such as Madame Tussauds. Combine the indulgence with a day of visiting museums or parks that don’t charge admission, and you’ll have a well-rounded schedule.

Additionally, you have the option to discover London’s theatre industry. Visit the TKTS booth in Leicester Square for reduced-price, same-day theatre tickets to West-End productions – a fun and budget-friendly way to experience London’s cultural scene with your friends.

  • Embrace London’s Pub Culture

Experiencing London’s iconic pub culture is necessary for a girls’ trip to the city. Pubs offer a relaxed environment for affordable drinks, delicious food, and a comfortable ambiance compared to expensive restaurants.

Instead of going to crowded tourist destinations, seek out a nearby pub in places like Bloomsbury or Covent Garden. Get traditional pub food such as fish and chips, typically at a good value and satisfying enough for multiple people to enjoy!

If you prefer something lighter, pubs often have fantastic lunch specials, offering an opportunity to save on meals while experiencing a classic London ambience.

  • Shop Smart with Vintage and High-Street Finds

London has plenty of affordable choices if you plan to go shopping during your girls’ trip. Consider skipping the popular shopping areas like Oxford Street and check out Camden Market or Brick Lane for unique vintage fashion at lower prices.

Primark on Oxford Street is the perfect place to find stylish clothes at affordable prices if you like high-street fashion.

For even more significant savings, check out stores such as TK Maxx, where you can grab discounted designer items.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to pack a collapsible bag for your shopping treasures – your friends back home will make stylish London purchases!

Conclusion

London is a fantastic place for a budget-friendly girls’ trip, offering a mix of fun, history, and great food without costing a fortune. You can stroll through the charming streets, explore food markets, and stay at affordable hotels. It’s an ideal place for a memorable adventure with your buddies.
